Smudge (officially as Cascão[1]) is one of the main characters of Monica's Gang. He was created in 1961, and since 1982, he has his own printed comics. He is voiced by Paulo Camargo in the Brazilian animated version of the comic book series.
He, along with most of the characters, appears in Monica Adventures, as Smooth slushie.
Personality[]
Smudge is the third main character of Monica's Gang. He has aquaphobia, leading to his hatred of baths and causing him to panic whenever he sees water. Instead, he drinks artificial beverages or soup (only drinks water through a straw). Smudge is a kid who recycles old stuff in order to make new toys to play with. He is the gang's handycap, often breaking the other kids' broken toys.
Being Jimmy Five's best friend, he is always convinced or even blackmailed to participate in his "infallible plans", even though in the end, due by several of episodes in the TV series or stories in the comic, he is always the one who gets beaten up after Monica spots Jimmy Five and Smudge tricking on her.
The character is Chaotic Neutral, but does have some Lawful Neutral traits.
Physical Appearance[]
Smudge wears a yellow shirt and torn red pants with a single suspender. Due to their squalid appearance, these pants are almost indiscernible from a skirt. He has black, bushy hair. His body is usually covered in a layer of , hence his Portuguese name, "Cascão". The character has no toes on his feet.
After he is cleaned in The Five Magic Strands Of Hair, Smudge has a white shirt and no dirt.
Love Life[]
Smudge has an infatuation for Dustine, a girl who has the same aquaphobia as he did; but unlike Smudge, she even takes baths or showers.
Name[]
The name Cascão comes from the Portuguese term for "dirt layer".

- Mauricio de Sousa, his creator, says he based the character on a child he knew while growing up in Mogi das Cruzes.
